Curacao Casinos Will Soon Be Able to Get Licenses Directly from Gaming Control Board
It looks like Curacao is just a few steps aways from transforming its gambling industry. Earlier this week a website was launched for operators to apply for permits. Starting from November 15, casinos will be able to use the portal to submit their applications and get a license directly from the Curacao Gaming Control Board (GCB).
A new law (Lok) will come into effect next year, eliminating the need for Master License holders that currently sub-license hundreds of operators. The portal is launched to smooth the transition to the new regime. Until changes are implemented, applicants will get licenses under a current law but directly from the GCB.
Curacao was pushed by the Netherlands to reform its gambling regulation. Its controversial sub-license system is widely criticized for the lack of control over licensees. Reforms were promised quite a while ago, and the introduction of changes was delayed multiple times. Now, it looks like the transformation is just around the corner.
