Australian Online Gambling Operators Have to Instantly Verify New Customers
Starting from September 29, Australians have to provide gaming operators their ID before they can make any deposits and play. This measure is aimed at preventing underage gambling and protecting vulnerable players who activated self-exclusion using BetStop. Before the new rule came into effect, online gambling sites had 72 hours to perform the checks.
According to the independent organization Responsible Wagering Australia (RWA), their members already instantly verify 90% of their customers. RWA members include some of the biggest gambling operators such as bet365, Betfair, Entain, Sportsbet, and others. Along with instant verification, online operators are now promoting safer gambling by encouraging new members to set a deposit limit as they sign up.
