How Do Casino Players Become Gambling Addicts?

I’ve heard numerous times that the first casino win is the one almost all players remember for a long time. This event introduces them to a new emotion, and it “makes” players return to a casino after a while. This very dangerous emotion can be called “turns out I don’t have to work and can easily win money”.

That’s how people become casino players. At that time, they are still just regular gamblers…

What Can Go Wrong?

Here are some of my thoughts on things that can turn a gambler into a gambling addict:

  • Players lose a lot of money but continue playing the same game with increased intensity. They are waiting for one big payout to win back their losses, because they think that eventually the slot must give back what it took.
  • Bet more so that even a small win will cover previous losses.
  • Borrow money to continue playing the same slot with the hope of breaking even. Because you were just a bit short of gaming balance.
  • Chase losses by playing baccarat and placing a large bet on the Banker’s hand or, for instance, on red in roulette…
  • Come up with rituals: reload a slot after a bad bonus… Play a slot in which a streamer has just lost money, or play during a certain “lucky” time of the day, etc.

If you manage to actually win back your losses using one of the above methods, there’s a high chance that you’ll find yourself in the same spot later. But next time, you’ll have a much more ‘serious’ problem, bigger debt and losses.

It’s silly trying to beat math when you can’t count. And if, by some chance, you pull this through, this isn’t going to do you any good. Because you’ll be tempted to repeat the same thing and risk even more money simply because it worked last time.

Most likely, after a win you’ll be prone to thinking that “now I know what to do” instead of “how lucky I am”. There’s no chance of winning this competition. Don’t mistake good luck for your loss chasing skills. Because that’s the mentality of problem gamblers who eventually lose absolutely everything…
