Curacao Gaming Regulator Introduces New Policy to Promote Safer Gambling

Many operators licensed in Curacao offer very limited responsible gambling features. This should soon change as the Curacao Gaming Authority has introduced new requirements to promote safer gambling.

  • Now, operators are responsible for keeping players safe. They will have to provide self-exclusion options for different periods of time, including for lifetime. Self-exclusion must be activated instantly once requested.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly deposit limit features must be integrated along with reality checks. And there must be an obligatory waiting period before the deposit limit increase comes into effect.

Moreover, they have to keep track of player behavior and detect the signs of problem gambling. Casino staff must be trained to determine players who have issues maintaining control and assist them in finding relevant help. To prevent problem gambling, operators will have to apply account restrictions when necessary.

The regulator allows operators four months to adjust to new rules. But it asks operators to update their policies before March 31, 2025. Once the four month period ends, casinos will have to submit reports and go through audit checks to make sure they comply with new requirements.
