Malta Won’t Recognize and Enforce Austrian Court Ruling Ordering Player Refunds

Players from Austria lost money in an online casino licensed in Malta. They then sued the operators to get their money back. The Austrian court sided with players and ruled that the refund must be issued because the operators had no local license and were offering their services illegally.

In response, gambling operators took the case to the Maltese court. They cited the EU law that grants their members freedom to provide services across the EU.

According to this law, MGA licensed sites have the right to operate in Austria. The Maltese court agreed and ruled that the Austrian court order can’t be enforced.
