Caesars Entertainment, one of the largest gaming companies, has been the victim of a cyber attack. Bloomberg has recently reported that criminals demanded $30 million, and that the company paid them half of the sum. The news agency was informed of the hack by two people familiar with the matter.
The news of the multi million ransom being paid broke on Wednesday. And it was announced that the Scattered Spider group, also known as UNC3944, was behind the attack. Hackers first managed to break into the casino’s third party IT vendor and then got access to Caesars network.
The incident was kept secret until Bloomberg posted an article revealing the details of the hack and the ransom. Following the publication, the company confirmed that the customer data was stolen and said that steps were taken to make sure criminals deleted the stolen data.
