ELK Studios adds another title to its popular range featuring feathered pirates. The developer decided to replace the CollectR engine with a cluster mechanic. This might come as a surprise since the series is famous for this unique feature. But Pirots X is designed in a way that makes the whole experience look very similar to what one might expect from the series.
The birds took a wild journey appearing in the DinoLand and then in the Wild West. They finally decided to return to their home island to recharge and get ready for their next adventure. But this quartet is so mischievous, they make their presence noticed all the time.
Features
Pirots X offers up to x10,000 payouts, 8/10 volatility, 94% RTP and 24% hit frequency. Clusters of five or more similar symbols land players wins. The slot features cascading wins, when winning combinations disappear to let other symbols drop into their positions.
Unlike three previous titles, Pirots X is a cluster slot. This, however, doesn’t mean that you’ll get a completely different experience as the studio preserved that special atmosphere. So, you’ll often see parrots doing what they are designed to do, which is collecting the symbols.
Just like in other slots from this range, parrots collect symbols of their respective color. But that can only happen if a nest lands on the grid. Then, a random parrot occupies it to begin the collection process that boosts the global multiplier.
Multipliers and Wilds
The global multiplier resets after every spin. It starts with 1 and will grow when birds collect symbols. This multiplier is applied to all wins.
- There are also multiplier wilds. Their multipliers are applied only to wins that include one of these special symbols. They can land randomly or appear when several Wilds, participating in the same winning combination, merge into one. In this case, their individual multipliers are added.
- Regular wilds are also present. They each give the multiplier value of 1 when merging takes place.
Any winning combination disappears and leaves one wild. Wilds don’t only merge, they can also split. If the same wild appears in two clusters, it splits so that each cluster has a separate wild.
Pirots X Boosters
Just like in previous iterations, there are multiple boosters that can be activated. And it’s up to parrots to decide when any of the features will be triggered.
- Bomb. When a bomb goes off it destroys all regular symbols in its proximity and expands the layout.
- Feature Release. When a bird opens a chest, random 1×1 symbols turn into: wilds, bombs, nests, bonus and super bonus icons.
- Big Drop. When a bird pushes a red button, one bigger than normal symbol lands, and it crashes regular size symbols while it gets to its destination.
- Nest. When it appears on the screen, a random bird uses it as a starting point on its symbol collection mission.
Bonus Games
When three Pirots X bonus symbols land, players enter a bonus game with the global multiplier that doesn’t reset between drops. Or if there are two of them plus one Super bonus symbol, then they get the Super version of the round. That’s when players get a guaranteed feature release in every round and a fully expanded grid in addition to the global multiplier that is persistent throughout the bonus.
Bonus Buy
The slot offers five X-iter options. Two of them allow players to buy a bonus. A regular one costs x100) while the Super is x500. For the price of x25, punters get guaranteed feature release with 3 to 5 chests dropped. In this case, the max grid size is used and if players trigger a bonus, it’s going to be the Super one.
Bonus Hunt costs x3 and triples the chance of winning free drops. And for x5, players can buy a guaranteed big symbol and a grid size of 6×6.
Conclusion
Pirots X does use a different engine, but it keeps that mischievous and incredibly engaging atmosphere. And thanks to familiar features and boosters, the gameplay doesn’t feel too much different.
