If Egypt’s scorching sun proves unbearable for you, some snow and ice might save your day. And that’s exactly what Tropicool 3 offers. A sudden snowstorm left a scene that’s hard to imagine. Famous Egyptian artifacts and palm trees are covered in snow and all symbols in the grid are frozen.
This is the third installment in the popular ELK Studios franchise. It features all the signature components such as the Feature Reel and an arsenal of boosters it offers. The layout is 6×6, but this time the studio added its unique gravity mechanic, and that changed the shape of the layout.
Features
For Tropicool 3 the developer decided to add some fundamentally different things into the mix of existing features. And the gravity engine, which is one of the ELK Studios’ top creations, fits in just perfectly. That change required some adjustments.
Reels are now positioned differently even though the grid remains 6×6. When cascades occur, symbols don’t fall straight down, but slide to lower positions on the left or right. The engine came with a different way of triggering one key feature. Instead of falling down the main grid, a special Elmo symbol now must roll to the leftmost reel.
COOL Reel
The special reel above the main layout in Tropicool 3 is now of different shape. It’s a three-row pyramid with 6, 4 and 2 symbols in each row. The COOL Reel hosts a range of feature symbols that activate when they fall down to the main grid. But there are also empty symbols that award nothing. Here’s what type of feature symbols are there.
- Regular Wilds.
- Locked Wilds that remain on the reels until a player grabs three payouts.
- Multipliers of up to x25.
- Mystery symbols that all reveal the same paying symbol or a Wild.
- Row Swap. When it’s activated, one symbol from an affected row is selected to replace all other symbols in its row.
- Extra Drops are available when players enter the bonus game.
- Bonus symbols.
Elmo’s Revenge
Elmo the Sloth is a grumpy little fellow who hates birds. And when Belle the Flamingo and Emerson the Tucan invaded his beach in the second game, they acquired an enemy for life. Now, an animal that is supposed to be a laid-back creature, stalks them trying to disrupt their life.
But this drama is what players will enjoy as it adds some extra spice to this Tropicool 3 adventure. If Elmo is able to roll to the leftmost column, he triggers the Elmo’s Revenge feature that makes all the symbols in the COOL Reel drop to the main grid. There can be a whole bunch of features triggered, which can lead to some juicy payouts.
Bonus and Super Bonus
There are two levels of the bonus game. At least three bonus symbols trigger the regular bonus round with special Extra Drops symbols added to the COOL Reel. In addition, the Locked Wilds that aren’t fully used, will be carried over to the next rounds.
The Super version of the bonus is triggered when a combination of 3 Bonus + 1 Elmo lands. And the difference is that on top of all the features available in the regular bonus, players get one Elmo symbol that isn’t going anywhere until the round ends. More Elmos can land and stick around. So, there’s a greater chance of landing the Elmo’s Revenge feature.

The X-iter options are there for anyone who wants to have a shortcut to features. There are five choices priced from x3 to x500.
- Pay x3 to more than triple your chances of activating a bonus.
- x25 to get 3 guaranteed Locked Wilds.
- x50 for the Elmo’s Revenge activation.
- X100 for the bonus game.
- x500 for the Super Bonus.
Conclusion
Tropicool 3 takes an unexpected turn by borrowing the gravity engine from another popular ELK Studios series. But other than that, the slot remains familiar to the Tropicool fans. It’s a breath of cool air in the hot environment. Cascades along with the COOL Reel play a big role in keeping both base and bonus games fun.
