Evolution Responds to the Four-Week Strike in Georgia by Cutting Off 1,000 Jobs

Evolution Georgia

Things in Georgia has escalated. In the beginning of this summer, a trade union initiated the negotiations with the live casino supplier for better working conditions, salaries and benefits for Evolution employees in Tbilisi, Georgia. The failure to reach agreement led to the four-week strike.

The company had its normal operations disrupted on July 12. One month later, it fights back by axing 1,000 jobs in Georgia and assures the decision won’t be reversed. Evolution says that the trade union’s actions are illegal. It blames the strike for a negative impact on the business, highlighting that customers now don’t want their custom tables operated from Georgia.

The company says it still assesses the damage and threatens to take further actions if the situation doesn’t resolve. Meanwhile, events outside the Tbilisi office continue to unfold as some employees go on hunger strike, according to the Georgian media.

More Disrupting Than Expected

The union notified Evolution of the strike, which began on July 12, three days in advance. But the company seemed pretty relaxed expecting no significant impact on its operations.

Two days before the strike, the company informed that there were fewer than 500 employees involved. But according to the UNI Global Union, over 4,000 employees supported the strike.
