Evolution Shuffler Is Accused of Manipulating Cards to Win $47,000 in Live Blackjack
According to Connecticut state police, Sebastian Echeverri, a former Evolution employee, is accused of cheating. A 23-year-old worked as a shuffler in Fairfield, the live casino studio launched in July 2022. He would memorize and in some cases manipulate cards to then place favorable bets from his three DraftKings accounts.
The suspect was arrested last week and he admitted cheating. The investigation began after the Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force was informed of possible scam by the Department of Consumer Protection. Video surveillance obtained by the investigators confirmed suspicions.
One of DraftKings accounts, believed to belong to Echeverri, was flagged for suspicious activity between July and December 2022. The account was later linked to him after he used the same device to access Evolution employee portals to view work schedules.
Evolution estimates that he cheated during at least 26 different games to illegally win over $47,000 from DraftKings.
