Dave Hughes is the name that is being mentioned a lot in the poker news lately. The man entered and won the $250 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em event at the Seminole Hard Rock in Florida. To pull the trick, he didn’t even have to pretend to be a woman. Turns out, under Florida state law, males can’t be stopped from entering ladies events.
He was the only man competing in the women’s only WPT competition on Saturday. Dave explained that he drove several hours to support his friend who participated in the Main Event. And at the time he arrived, there was only $250 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em he could join.
After winning the event and causing a lot of stir in the poker community, Dave had to do some explaining. In competitions when muscle and strength is involved, he is 100% against men taking advantage of women. However, he thinks that in poker women are just as fierce and capable as men.
According to the winner, the atmosphere was positive, and ladies had a lot of fun trying to kick him out of the competition for an additional reward. Initially, $300 were offered for anyone who would kick Dave out of the game but by the end of the event a bounty grew to $2,000, the amount equivalent to 2nd place prize.
