Bonus abuse seems to be a big issue for gambling operators. And Bet365 decided to give abusers a legal fight. Jon Howard from Essex has been sentenced to 5 years in prison for taking part in the bonus abuse syndicate that robbed the bookmaker of an estimated £236,000.
The syndicate has registered more than 1,000 Bet365 accounts to claim welcome bonuses. Essex Police was notified of the scam in 2018 and it took a lot of time to investigate the case. In 2019 they raided Jon Howard’s address to find plenty of documents in different names and 177 sim cards.
It’s reported that people voluntarily provided their details to be used for multi-accounting. Several other people involved in the scam were also prosecuted. Some experts believe that there’s no way the damage is just £236,000. They think that other operators have been affected but didn’t come forward.
