Evolution Accuses Playtech of Orchestrating Smear Campaign in Battle for North America

Two iGaming giants collide, and serious accusations have been thrown. Evolution has applied to add Playtech as a defendant in the ongoing defamation lawsuit against Black Cube. It claims that Playtech paid £1.5 million to Black Cube for a smear campaign to get rid of Evolution in North America.

A few years ago, Black Cube was hired to investigate Evolution activities on illegal markets. Its report claims that the software provider does supply its content to illegal markets. And although at first the identity of the Black Cube customer was hidden, it later was revealed to be Playtech.

Playtech hired Black Cube to do the investigation. And different payments were agreed for achieving different goals:

  1. Find evidence of Evolution’s wrongdoings
  2. Publication of the findings in a major outlet
  3. Regulator launches investigation
  4. One of the Evolution licenses revoked

Since three of the agreed goals have been achieved, Playtech paid Black Cube three agreed amounts. But the largest payment of £500,000 wasn’t paid since regulators didn’t find any wrongdoings and Evolution license wasn’t revoked.

Evolution thinks it was a deliberate attack to get rid of the major competitor in North America. It claims that the findings are baseless and false. Playtech in turn claims the report does expose illegal practices and that the truth will be revealed during the court hearings.
