Netherlands Gaming Authority Bans Untargeted Casino Advertisements from July 1

Kansspelautoriteit, the Netherlands Gaming Authority decided to ban untargeted online casino ads from July 1 this year. That means no more TV, radio, magazine ads or anything displayed in public spaces.

Online advertising will also be affected as the authority wants any website promoting online casinos to prove at least 95% of their visitors are aged 24+. Prior to the changes, casinos reported 75% to 80% of their visitors were 24+. The regulator thinks 80% isn’t enough to protect the vulnerable age group.

Kansspelautoriteit is especially concerned about young adults and doesn’t want them targeted by gaming operators. It has already issued a number of €400,000 fines for sending ads to young adults, which is prohibited under existing rules. Betent, fined on April 19, is the latest operator punished for doing that.
