Ohio to Permanently Ban Sport Bettors Who Harass or Threaten Sport Participants
Angry bettors harassing and threatening athletes is nothing new, and one of the US states decided to fight this behavior. Ohio was the first to introduce the law allowing the gaming regulator, Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), to exclude bettors who harass or threaten sport participants, including athletes, coaches, and referees.
The issue was raised in January, right after Ohio legalized sports betting. One of the men’s basketball team coaches was concerned with the abuse his team experienced from bettors. The OCCC representative commented on the new law saying that it will be an additional tool to address the issue.
Now, bettors caught abusing sport participants will have their names shared with sports betting operators in Ohio and won’t be able to place any wagers.
